COP WHO TOOK ON KINAHANS RISING TO TOP OF FORCE

A SENIOR Garda who dismantled a Kinahan murder team and beefed up street policing in Dublin is now filling in one of the force's top jobs.

Assistant Commissioner Paul Cleary, who spent the last 10 months in charge of the capital after commanding the eastern region, is now Deputy Commissioner in charge of State security.

The role means sensitive policing areas such as national security, intelligence and counter terrorism are now in his portfolio.

STRATEGY

Assistant Commissioner Cleary has been temporarily appointed to the position which also sees him in charge of strategy and governance until the post is filled permanently later this year.
