Assaulted man doesn't believe it was a race attack

AN Indian man who was knocked over with a shopping trolley by a gang of thugs does not believe it was racially motivated.

Clifford Thomas, 27, who moved to Ireland three years ago, was making his way home in Northwood, near Ballymun in Santry, Co Dublin, when he was attacked on Sunday.

He fell to the ground after being rammed with the trolley, was struck again, and his glasses were broken - when passersby came to his rescue and the gang fled.

Clifford was treated in hospital and reported the assault to gardai, but he thinks it is not connected to anti-immigrant campaigns.
