Time to move on from democratic vote to leave EU

NORMAN Hawkes (Mail Box, May 1) only uses the figures that suit him for the 1975 UK referendum, however when considering the total electorate only 42 per cent voted to stay 57 per cent did not.

One thing stands out from his letter in that he brands both referendums (1975 and 2016) the same, they were not.

In 1973, the UK joined the EEC (common market). In the 1975 referendum the UK electorate was asked if it wanted to stay as a member of the EEC (common market), they voted yes.
