PRYCE EXPLAINS HOW HIS TIME DOWN UNDER WAS A LEARNING EXPERIENCE

- By DAN TOMLINSON

It didn’t take long for Richie Myler and John Cartwright to sell Hull FC to Will Pryce.

In fact, one phone call and the young star’s mind was made up.

Cutting a frustrated figure in Australia, Pryce, 22, who moved down under as a 20-year-old, wanted to come home.

He wasn’t getting the opportunities he craved, and once Hull made contact with his manager, the move to FC seemed a foregone conclusion.

Released from Newcastle Knights on compassionate grounds, Pryce signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with Hull and has settled in at ease.

Moving back around the world, he’s now in his element again, both on and off the field, and has no doubt he made the right decision.

"There was some frustration on my part - not being where I wanted to be in Australia," Pryce, in his first Hull FC press conference, said.

"When you're not playing first grade and you're kept back a bit, you can get frustrated, and being on the other side of the world away from your family at a young age had a lot of involvement in that.

"I wanted to get back home. I've got a younger brother, and I wanted to see him grow up. My mum, my dad, and my sister - we've got a close-knit group at home, and moving away showed me how much I missed them and needed them.

"Richie got in touch with my manager and just said there's an opportunity here if Will wants to come home. I saw what John has been doing here, we had a chat on the phone, and he sold it to me. The club is going in a really good direction, and I want to be in it for the long haul - I want to be a part of that. I think we can do something special over the next few years.”
