Moonlit master's art sells for £55k

A PAINTING of Whitby by the Victorian master of the moonlit scene Atkinson Grimshaw sold for £55,000, more than three times expectations, when it went under the hammer in David Duggleby's Autumn Art sale.
The oil on board work was a view from Scotch Head looking across the town's harbour towards the Abbey high on the cliff.
It was painted in 1886, a time when newly wealthy industrialists were clamouring to buy the Leeds-born artist's astonishing nocturnal townscapes and dockside scenes.
