Featherstone 'devastated' after RFL's playing decision

FEATHERSTONE Rovers CEO Chris Hamilton has voiced his devastation after the club was denied Rugby Football League membership for the 2026 Championship season.

The West Yorkshire outfit entered administration in December amid significant financial difficulties and were given a deadline to submit new ownership proposals ahead of the 2026 campaign.
However, the RFL confirmed the submission "did not meet the required governance criteria" and, as a result, membership has been refused.
The governing body has stated it will continue working with the administrator in the hope of establishing a professional club in Featherstone in the future, but Rovers will not compete in the 2026 Championship or the Challenge Cup competition.
Hamilton has since expressed his frustration, insisting "months of hard work have come to nothing".
