Britain can be influential in the EU again

THE Office for Budget Responsibility, the UK's official fiscal watchdog, forecasts our long-term growth will be four per cent lower than if we'd stayed in the European Union.

Peter Auty (Mailbox, September 25) confused this structural economic forecast - the figure frequently cited by those who advocate rejoining - with a similar prediction made by a couple of Bloomberg economists.

It’s one of several things confused in his letter. Nothing was “lost in a money pit’. Our EU contributions helped boost poorer economies that became valuable UK export markets.
