New Saints clinch third treble with Welsh Cup revenge over Nomads

|May 07, 2025
THE New Saints gained revenge for their defeat in last year's JD Welsh Cup final by taking the title out of the grip of Connah's Quay Nomads and adding it to their two other pieces of domestic silverware.
-
Goals from Rory Holden and Jordan Williams were enough to overturn the Nomads' early lead and complete the treble for the third time in their history.
It was a victory that brought to an end one of the greatest seasons in the club's history, given they also played 14 European matches as they reached the group stages of the Conference League for the first time.
Defeat for the Nomads meant they not only relinquished the oldest trophy in Welsh football, but also denied them a ticket into European football next season.
The TNS triumph ensures Penybont, runners-up in the JD Cymru Premier, will get an automatic ticket into Europe in the summer rather than having to go through a play-off competition.
The game began in bizarre fashion with the Nomads starting with only 10 players as they had mistakenly named the injured Kai Edwards in their team.
