Want stronger ties with growing power India, but seek support in probe: Trudeau

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said Canada is "very serious" about building closer ties with India given its growing importance on the world stage, but emphasised that New Delhi should work with Ottawa to properly investigate the killing of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

"India is a growing economic power and important geopolitical player. And as we presented with our Indo-Pacific strategy, just last year, we're very serious about building closer ties with India," he told reporters on Thursday.

"At the same time, obviously, as a rule of law of country, we need to emphasise that India needs to work with Canada to ensure that we get the full facts of this matter," he said, in an apparent reference to Nijjar's killing.
