The US and the UK have expressed concerns about the reduction of Canadian diplomatic presence in India on New Delhi's insistence, highlighting the need to resolve differences, with London backing Ottawa's contention that the move went against the Vienna convention and Washington saying it had asked India not to press on with the decision.

The support from the US and the UK -- part of the Five Eyes intelligence sharing alliance that includes Canada -- came after Ottawa confirmed that it had withdrawn 41 diplomats from India as they stood to lose their diplomatic immunity.
