For the second consecutive day, the 3000m steeplechase proved a productive race for Indian athletes as Parul Chaudhary and Priti Lamba finished second and third, after Avinash Sable won gold in the men's event on Sunday. Chaudhary clocked 9:27.63 minutes to finish behind Bahrain's Winfred Yavi, who set a Games record of 9:18.28. Lamba snatched bronze with a personal best effort (9:43.32).
"I think I have made India proud today with my effort. I will take this silver because Yavi is a world champion," said Chaudhary.
In women's long jump, Ancy Sojan, 22, equalled her personal best of 6.56m and then bettered it with a final effort of 6.63m to win silver. The younger Shaili Singh, finished fifth.
Ancy, who has been a strong domestic jumper for a few seasons now, said: "The conditions were good today. The board felt great too.
The crowd was Superb. I had landed here expecting a medal and I am very happy to have done that." Meanwhile, Indian 4x400m mixed relay team won silver after being upgraded from bronze. The Indians had finished behind winners Bahrain and Sri Lanka, who were disqualified for a lane infringement.
