Shah, Kejriwal spar over welfare, Delhi voter rolls

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal and Union home minister Amit Shah launched scathing attacks at each other's camps on Saturday, with the former doubling down on the party's allegations of voter list manipulation in a letter to the poll panel and the latter reiterating allegations of corruption against the ruling party in the city.

Addressing a 'Jhuggi Basti Pradhan Sammelan' in New Delhi, Shah attacked the AAP government, targeting Kejriwal over the controversial renovation of his former official residence, which the BJP has dubbed 'Sheesh Mahal'.
Kejriwal, in a letter to the Election Commission, accused the BJP of attempting to manipulate electoral rolls in the New Delhi constituency by transferring voters from across the country using addresses of party MPs and ministers.
"The BJP is transferring votes from across the country to the New Delhi Assembly using addresses of its own Members of Parliament (MPs) and ministers," Kejriwal wrote, calling the practice "even worse than the booth-capturing practices of the past."
He specifically alleged that 33 votes were transferred to BJP candidate Parvesh Verma's official residence. "Are we expected to believe that overnight 33 people from across India have shifted their residence to that of Mr Verma? If so, then he must be disqualified from contesting elections for indulging in corrupt practices," Kejriwal alleged, adding that it was "inconceivable how such a high number of voters could have suddenly applied to be transferred to these properties without planning by the highest levels of BJP leadership."
