‘Heart disease a rising risk for children as young as 7’
Hindustan Times
|September 30, 2025
Doctors across Delhi, in the run-up to World Heart Day, observed on September 29 every year, said lifestyle choices are putting young children at risk of heart disease, citing increasing cases of symptoms of high blood pressure, dyslipidemia, and elevated sugar levels—a problem once exclusively associated with middle-aged and older populations.
Risk factors are quietly stressing the heart and arteries, increasing risk among the younger population, said Dr Mukesh Goel, senior consultant, Cardiothoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals. He said that there has been an increase in the number of children having hypertension, high cholesterol, insulin resistance, and pre-diabetes.
