Ensure an end to atrocities against Hindus, appeals RSS

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Saturday appealed to the Bangladesh's interim government to ensure that atrocities on the members of the Hindu community are stopped and Iskcon monk Chinmoy Krishna Das is released from jail immediately.

The appeal by the RSS—the ideological fount of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)—came a day after three Hindu temples were allegedly vandalized by a mob in Bangladesh's Chattogram, which has witnessed protests and violence since former Iskcon member Das was arrested and booked for sedition on Monday.

"The attacks, murders, looting, arson as well as inhuman atrocities by Islamic fundamentalists on Hindus, women and all other minorities in Bangladesh are extremely worrying and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh condemns this," RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale said in a statement.

Instead of stopping this, the Bangladesh's incumbent government and other agencies are silent spectators, he said. "Out of helplessness, a new phase of injustice and atrocities seems to be emerging against the Hindus of Bangladesh to suppress the voice raised by them in a democratic way for self-defence," Hosabale said.
