'Cable theft' disrupts Metro's Blue Line ops

NEW DELHI: A suspected cable theft on the Delhi Metro's Blue Line heading towards Noida Electronic City/Vaishali threw operations out of gear for over seven hours and led to major inconvenience for commuters, especially office-goers, as trains got delayed, and stations and coaches were seen tightly packed with people, officials aware of the matter said.

The alleged theft took place between Kirti Nagar and Moti Nagar Metro stations, leading to a signalling issue, and resulting in trains operating at a restricted speed which led to a delay in services in the first half of the day, including peak office hours.

Though initially DMRC announced it would carry out repair work only at the end of the day, when operations come to a halt, the Metro operator eventually carried out repairs from around 1 pm, completing the works by 1:38 pm.
