China Defends Defense Spending After Putin Backs Mutual Cuts

Beijing said on Tuesday its defense spending was "entirely necessary" after Russian President Vladimir Putin backed a suggestion by US counterpart Donald Trump that Russia, the United States and China all cut their defense budgets in half.
BEIJING:
Since launching its invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russia has significantly ramped up its military spending, allocating substantial resources to sustain its war effort.
Meanwhile, China has also steadily increased its defense budget in recent years, amid ongoing tensions in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly with the US and its allies.
