DC warns SAIL over red water pollution, threatens action

West Singhbhum district deputy commissioner (DC) Kuldeep Chowdhury has directed the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) officials to ensure that its red water (consisting of iron ore, mud, and stone chips) does not flow into water bodies, sources, or nearby farmlands, turning them barren, people close to the development said on Saturday.
JAMSHEDPUR: West Singhbhum district deputy commissioner (DC) Kuldeep Chowdhury has directed the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) officials to ensure that its red water (consisting of iron ore, mud, and stone chips) does not flow into water bodies, sources, or nearby farmlands, turning them barren, people close to the development said on Saturday.
The move came in the wake of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) directing the DC to ensure compliance and file a compliance-and-action-taken report during its hearing on the issue in Delhi on February 28, the above-cited people said.
