The All India Students Association (AISA), on Thursday, staged a demonstration at Albert Ekka Chowk in the heart of Ranchi against the Hemant Soren government over the non-appointment of the chairman and vice-chairman of the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) and the delay in payment of post-matric scholarships.

RANCHI:

The demonstration was organised after AISA members paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his martyrdom day.

AISA state secretary Triloki Nath said, "Due to the vacancy of the chairman and vice-chairman posts of the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC), the work of lakhs of students is being affected. The board examinations are scheduled to be held in a few days, but the date for the distribution of admit cards has not been announced yet, causing students mental distress and affecting their exam preparation. The appointment for the post of chairman of JSSC is also pending."

Impetus for science amidst a global churn

The relentless rise of technologies pervades every aspect of human life today, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) is its enforcer. From manufacturing to services, from nano-materials to space travel, from new chemistry to biotechnology, the pace of this rise is frenetic. There are two extreme ways—and a few in between—for countries to address this rise. The first is to be a passive user and play with markets, services, and exports of natural resources, including human talent. The second is to become a truly competitive player in this changing world, and to tilt the use of science and technology for our social and economic benefit. Budget allocations can help in pointing out the direction.
