FOR THE FIRST TIME IN INDIA, A PHARMACIST HAS BEEN APPOINTED AS THE VC OF A GOVERNMENT HEALTH VARSITY
JAIPUR: The Indian Medical Association Rajasthan chapter has opposed the government decision to appoint a non-medical professional as the vice chancellor (VC) of Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) and urged it to reconsider.
Rajasthan governor and chancellor of RUHS Haribhau Bagde on Monday appointed Dr Pramod Yeole as the VC of RUHS, based on the recommendations of the selection committee and in consultation with the state government.
Yeole, who has a PhD in pharmaceutical sciences, succeeds Dr Dhananjai Agarwal, a senior professor of nephrology at SMS Medical College. Yeole's appointment, effective from the date he assumes charge, will be for five years or till he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier. He served as the VC of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar since 2019.
This is the first time a pharmacist has been appointed as a VC in a government health university in India.
