More US deportees likely to arrive on February 15, 16

At least 119 Indian migrants deported from the US are expected to arrive at the Guru Ram Dass International Airport in Amritsar on board two flights on February 15 and 16, officials familiar with the matter said on Thursday, making it the second tranche of people returning amid an unprecedented crackdown on people entering the US illegally.

Both flights are scheduled to land at 10.05pm on February 15 and 16, officials in the Punjab police said.

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, further gave a state-wise categorization of deportees, with Punjab accounting for the most at 67 people, followed by 33 from Haryana, eight from Gujarat, three from Uttar Pradesh, two from Maharashtra, two from Rajasthan, one each from Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

The deportees scheduled to reach India over the weekend include people who entered the US through Mexico and other routes, but allegedly tore up their passports immediately after entering the US illegally, the officials cited above said.
