Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday accused the BJP of having an "anti-Dalit mindset" after its leader sprinkled Ganga water at a Ram temple in Alwar to "purify" it following Congress' Tika Ram Jully's participation in the consecration ceremony there on Sunday.

JAIPUR:

Former BJP leader Gyandev Ahuja later sprinkled Ganga water to "cleanse" the temple, which the Congress called a blatant act of caste discrimination.

Following the remarks, Ahuja was suspended from the BJP on Tuesday.

Gandhi came out in strong support of Jully, sharing the video of the incident on social media and accusing the BJP of fostering a "Manuwadi" and anti-Dalit mindset. The issue also echoed at the Congress convention, where party president Mallikarjun Kharge called the act shameful and demanded accountability from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
