Police arrested former chief minister Champai Soren to restrain him from participating in a programme of ploughing at RIMS-2 construction site in Nagri, where over 5,000 people ploughed defying all prohibitory orders of the district administration amid tear gas shelling.
Soren was put under house arrest, according to officials.
Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) is a state-run superspeciality hospital at Bariatu. RIMS-2 is the second such institution the state government has planned to improve the medical infrastructure of the state, and it has selected a site at Nagri for its construction.
Soren was informed about his house arrest through a social media post.
