The 54-year-old man who had strangled his daughter-in-law and buried her body in a pit dug in front of the house on April 21 at Faridabad's Palla area has been remanded to police custody for three more days for further interrogation, by a Faridabad court, police officials said.

GURUGRAM: Bhoop Singh, accused of killing his daughter-in-law, was initially on a two-day custody after he was held on Friday.

Investigators had sought additional time for interrogation on grounds that Singh was not cooperating with the police and further questioning was required. Meanwhile, the case was transferred to the crime branch for investigation on Sunday. Faridabad police public relations officer, Yashpal Yadav, said that they were trying to ascertain if a family feud was the real cause for the murder or whether she was killed for dowry. "Singh is trying to mislead the police by not cooperating. His wife and daughter have feigned ignorance about the murder plot," Yadav said. HTC

GURUGRAM: A fresh row has broken out over alleged illegal encroachments by a temple trust in the protected Aravalli Forest behind Suncity in Sector 54, with residents and environmentalists accusing the authorities of inaction despite violations being flagged for months.

The temple trust, which had earlier been issued a forest offence report (FOR) and show-cause notices, is now facing serious charges of large-scale unauthorised construction, ecological damage and environmental violations. Complainants have alleged that over 10 acres of forest land have been encroached upon by the trust.

HT made multiple attempts to reach out to the temple trust, but did not receive any response.
