The toll from rain-related incidents in Bihar rose to 63, prompting the state disaster management body to rethink its early warning system in rural areas, officials said on Friday.
PATNA: The toll from rain-related incidents in Bihar rose to 63, prompting the state disaster management body to rethink its early warning system in rural areas, officials said on Friday.
On the 63 confirmed deaths, Bihar chief secretary Amrit Lal Meena said while 24 people died in lightning strikes, 39 deaths happened in other rain-related incidents including uprooting of trees.
"The storm was unexpected but we have promptly carried the rescue and rehabilitation works. Compensation of ₹4 lakh as announced to the bereaved families has been provided to majority of them," Meena said.
