The state government-run Guru Gobind Singh Sports College here in Lucknow has been struggling to have a permanent principal ever since its establishment in 1975.

- Sharad Deep

LUCKNOW:

The first-ever principal of the sports college Shyam Sundar was a PCS officer, who handled the responsibility on an ad hoc basis from 1975 to 1980, and thereafter subsequently, other PCS officers like Girish Chandra Pathak, Jagjit Singh Sirohi, Brijendra Kumar Singh and even an IAS Lalit Verma too held the posts till 1985.

And thereafter, all other principals with additional charges were from the Uttar Pradesh Sports Directorate. They included Anand Shukla, Vijay Singh Chauhan, Surendra Nath, TN Pandey, Nirmal Singh Saini, Anil Kumar Banodha, RN Singh, Vijay Kumar Gupta, Jitendra Yadav, Shyam Sundar Mishra, Mudrika Pathak and Ajay Kumar Sethi.

In fact, the current situation is being viewed as a big failure on the part of the authorities concerned as even after a long gap of 48 years, three officials of the Uttar Pradesh Sports Directorate have been holding the additional charge of three different sports colleges across the state.
