BHOPAL/AHMEDABAD: Mhow in Madhya Pradesh and Dehgam in Gujarat remained tensed on Monday, hours after communal clashes broke in the two towns during celebratory rallies following Indian cricket team's victory in the ICC Champions Trophy final, prompting authorities to apprehend nearly two dozen suspects and take elaborate measures to manage the unrest, officials said.
The incidents at Mhow in Indore district and Dehgam in Gandhinagar district occurred when a group of individuals took out bike rallies in the two towns on Sunday night, shortly after Indian cricket team, led by skipper Rohit Sharma, lifted their third ICC Champions Trophy title, defeating New Zealand in the final in Dubai.
Indore collector Asheesh Singh said that four people sustained injuries in clashes near a mosque in Mhow while several cars and two-wheelers were attacked and set ablaze. At least 13 people were arrested and the police registered two FIRs under relevant sections of BNS for rioting, voluntarily causing hurt and arson while the administration clamped down prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS, formerly Section 144 of the CrPC.
