Pratapgarh police treat suicide as 'digital murder', four arrested

In what appears to be the first such instance in the state, Pratapgarh police are treating a case of suicide as a 'digital murder' after four youngsters from Kanpur, suspected to be teenagers, allegedly posed as police crime branch officers and blackmailed a 34-year-old man on phone and online from Patanpur village, leading him to allegedly die by suicide on January 30.
KANPUR:
"We are treating this case as a digital murder; our special teams have arrested four individuals responsible for this crime," said additional superintendent of police (Pratapgarh) Durgesh Kumar.
The victim's brother revealed that the victim was forced to mortgage jewellery to make payments to the accused.
