IMPHAL: The "difficult phase" in ethnic strife-torn Manipur will be over soon with the return of peace in the restive state, Supreme Court judge Justice BR Gavai said on Saturday, after he led a delegation of four other top court judges to the state where they also interacted with internally displaced people.

The delegation, headed by Justice Gavai and comprising Justices Vikram Nath, MM Sundresh, KV Viswanathan and N Kotiswar Singh arrived in Imphal on Saturday as part of efforts to strengthen legal and humanitarian aid efforts in different parts of the state rocked by ethnic violence.

"Our country is a true example of unity in diversity. India is home for all of us. We know that you all are going through a difficult phase but with the assistance of everyone, the executive, the legislature and the judiciary, this phase will be over in a short period," Justice Gavai said.

Addressing the gathering in Moirang, the judge also reposed faith in the country's Constitution.
