SC: Oral statements by lawyers sufficient to pass effective orders

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has clarified that oral statements and consent given by lawyers are sufficient for constitutional courts to pass effective orders, emphasising that such orders cannot be impugned solely on the ground of lacking a written undertaking since the trust placed in advocates is foundational to the legal system.

"All the constitutional courts in our country accept the oral statements made on behalf of the parties by their respective learned counsel," said a bench comprising justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan.
