Rajasthan is set to welcome nine tigresses from Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh to address the imbalance in the big cat gender ratio and boost their population in the state's wildlife sanctuaries, people aware of the matter said.
ALWAR:
Speaking to the media earlier this week, forest minister and Alwar MLA Sanjay Sharma highlighted the urgent need to tackle the dwindling number of tigresses.
"The lack of tigresses in several sanctuaries is forcing male tigers to leave their territories, leading to territorial disputes. The tigresses will be relocated to sanctuaries including Ramgarh Vishdhari, Mukundra Hills, and Ranthambore. Two tigresses may also be released into the Sariska Tiger Reserve in Alwar," he said.
