Summoning House for CAG reports now won't serve purpose

The Delhi Assembly secretariat has told the high court that summoning a special session to table 14 Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports now would serve "no useful purpose" since the assembly's tenure ends in February.

NEW DELHI: The secretariat asserted that calling a session is entirely at the Speaker's discretion, which "cannot be questioned" by the court.

The submissions, part of an affidavit filed by the Delhi legislative assembly secretariat on January 7, again put at loggerheads the Delhi government and the lieutenant governor (LG) VK Saxena before regarding their stand over the court's power to direct speaker Ram Niwas Goel to summon a special sitting of the house to table the CAG reports.
