MCG to clear Bandhwari landfill site in six months

A team from the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) visited the Bandhwari landfill on Thursday and said that repair work on the controversial garland drain will begin immediately, with the entire landfill site expected to be cleared within the next six months.

The visit came just two days after the civic body informed the National Green Tribunal (NGT) that a high-density polyethylene (HDPE)-lined garland drain had already been constructed around the landfill to control toxic leachate discharge — a claim strongly refuted by environmentalists.

Led by senior engineers and sanitation staff, the MCG team inspected the landfill's perimeter, where the garland drain allegedly exists. During the visit, officials acknowledged that parts of the drain were either clogged or incomplete, and assured that repairing and checking the drainage system would be treated as priority.
