Delhi Zoo revises norms to allow 1-day adoptions

The Delhi Zoo is set to revamp its animal adoption policy to attract more public participation in wildlife conservation, with officials saying the revised scheme—offering cheaper and shorter adoption options—is likely to roll out later this year.

The idea, they said, is to make the programme more accessible, even to casual visitors, by allowing adoptions for as little as a day—ideal for birthdays, anniversaries, or other occasions.

"The current adoption numbers are quite low, and we want to change that," said Sanjeet Kumar, director of the Delhi Zoo.

"The process will be made simpler, and people will be able to adopt animals for shorter durations—one month, three months, six months, or even a single day. Earlier, adoptions were allowed only for a year or two. Now, visitors may adopt an animal on their birthday, or even on the birthday of a zoo animal," he said.
