Bihar Govt Floats New Anti-Graft Directorate

In a bid to step up the drive against corrupt public servants, the Nitish government has now constituted the Bihar Chief Investigation Commissioner directorate.

PATNA: A gazette notification for this was issued recently.

The directorate has been formed under the provisions of the Bihar Government Servants (Classification, Control & Appeal) Rules, 2005 for initiating and monitoring disciplinary action against the public servants to avoid discrepancies, which create uncomfortable situations for the government.

Bihar already has special vigilance unit (SVU), Economic Offence Unit (EOU) and Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) functional at present, which deals with separate cases of corruption.

While the monitoring of VIB and SUV is done by the Vigilance Commissioner, EOU is under the Bihar police.

The proposal for setting up an independent directorate was under the consideration of the government, which has now got the go-ahead in the poll-bound state and would function under the Chief Investigation Commissioner and its office would be associated with the General Administration Department (GAD).
