Over 1K rescued so far in Dharali; ₹5L declared to help rehabilitation

Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday announced a package of immediate financial assistance and a three-member committee for long-term rehabilitation of residents of flash floods-hit Dharali village of Uttarkashi district.
The development comes even as rescue operations continued for the fifth day, officials said, adding that 1126 people have been airlifted to safety since flash floods hit Dharali and Harshil areas of the districton August 5. This includes 480 people that were rescued on Saturday.
Dhami said that the families ‘whose houses were destroyed in the disaster would receive ₹5 lakh for rehabilitation or displacement. A similar amount will provide as ex-gratia to the next of kin of those killed in the disaster, he added.
