Govt to issue rules on online gaming ban in 3-4 weeks: Vaishnaw

The government will issue rules and guidance for India’s new online gaming ban within three to four weeks and provide companies adequate transition time without coercive action, Union IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told industry representatives during the first consultation meeting on September 1, according to people aware of the matter.
The minister assured stakeholders that firms could report any harassment by local authorities directly to the ministry for intervention and said the government would “patiently handhold” the real-money gaming sector to pivot away from prohibited activities.
Vaishnaw reiterated that the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 aims to protect users and curb offshore operators whilst helping the domestic gaming industry adjust. He left the door open for possible amendments to the law.
Four ministries — electronics and IT, information and broadcasting, sports, and telecommunications — will oversee implementation, with joint secretaries Ajit Kumar (IT) and Senthil Rajan (I&B) named as nodal officers,
