Govt raises MSP on raw jute for 2025-26 season
Hindustan Times Delhi
|January 23, 2025
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday hiked the minimum support price of raw jute by ₹315 to ₹5650 per quintal (100kg) for the 2025-26 season.
NEW DELHI:
The increase in MSP for new season would give a return of 66.8% over all-India weighted average cost of production, a release said. This is in line with the principle of fixing MSPs at a level of at least 1.5 times the average cost of production.
The hike is based on recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP). MSP is a floor price aimed at helping avoid distress sale by farmers.
