CS to probe groundwater extraction

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Delhi chief secretary to conduct an inquiry into the illegal extraction of groundwater by guesthouses in Paharganj and the exemptions granted under a Voluntary Disclosure Scheme (VDS) that was never formally framed.

NEW DELHI: The police have apprehended a gangster and five of his associates after a gunfight inside an apartment in Rani Bagh. Police said the accused were involved in an armed robbery in January, where they allegedly robbed ₹85,000 at a shop. Sachin Sharma, DCP (outer) said, "While the police tried confronting the accused, they opened fire at the police party. The police team retaliated." Sharma said Rani Bagh SHO Prabhanshu Kumar charged at the accused to save his staff. "The team then barged in and apprehended them." said an officer. HTC
