{\ TENDERS FLOATED } COST OF ₹61 LAKH DDA begins task of reviving floodplain projects

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has moved to begin the arduous task of bringing back to life its riverfront projects that were damaged when the Yamuna spilled its banks in August, leaving behind a wasteland of hardened silt and lifeless shrubs across vast stretches of the floodplains, officials aware of the development said.

The landowning authority has floated tenders for the rejuvenation of key green zones, including the Amrut Biodiversity Park and the Kalindi Aviral extension. DDA officials aware of the plan said that the effort will involve clearing mud, replenishing the soil with good earth and Yamuna sand, digging fresh planting pits, and reintroducing seasonal plants and native saplings. Officials said the restoration, pegged at ₹61 lakh, is expected to take three months.

Unlike Vasudev Ghat, where tiled pathways and concrete structures are being revived, these projects will focus on basic cleaning and replantation of greenery that died due to being submerged.
