Authorities have sent notices to at least 15,000 people in Bihar, who allegedly failed to produce valid proof of identity and residence and against whom complaints were received that their Indian citizenship was suspect, election officials in Patna and Delhi said on Tuesday.

The notices urge such individuals to produce original copies of the documents submitted by them as proof of their identity before designated election officials. “Based on the enumeration form and the signed declaration received from you, your name has been included in the draftelectoral roll published on August 1, 2025. However, during verification of the documents submitted by you, certain discrepancies have been observed, creating reasonable doubt about your eligibility to be registered as a voter in this assembly constituency,” the notice in Hindi says.

“Therefore, you are requested to personally appear at the place, date, and time mentioned below, along with the original copies of the documents you had submitted, so that a decision may be taken regarding your right to be regis-

tered as a voter in this assembly constituency,” it adds.
