ITANAGAR: A consultative meeting on the contentious Siang Upper Multipurpose Project in Arunachal Pradesh's Siang district spiralled into chaos on Tuesday as villagers opposing the mega hydropower project clashed with security forces and disrupted the proceedings.

The meeting, held to deliberate on the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) of the proposed 12,500-MW dam project, was attended by district officials, rural development minister and local MLA Ojing Tasing, representatives of the Siang Indigenous Farmers Forum (SIFF), and other stakeholders.
