AP ex-intelligence chief held in harassment case

Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and former Andhra Pradesh intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu was on Tuesday arrested by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in connection with his alleged role in the arrest and harassment of Mumbai-based actress Kadambari Jethwani in early 2024, people familiar with the matter said.

HYDERABAD: Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and former Andhra Pradesh intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu was on Tuesday arrested by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in connection with his alleged role in the arrest and harassment of Mumbai-based actress Kadambari Jethwani in early 2024, people familiar with the matter said.

The 1992-batch IPS officer was picked up from his residence in Hyderabad by the Andhra CID officials early in the morning and was shifted to Vijayawada.

"He was straightaway taken to the CID office in Vijayawada, where he is being questioned," a police official said on condition of anonymity.

He said after recording the statement of Anjaneyulu in the Jethwani case, the police would take him to the hospital for medical examination and later produce him in the court for judicial remand.

State home minister Vangalapudi Anitha confirmed that Anjaneyulu was arrested for abusing his authority during the YSR Congress party regime headed by then chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. "Only those officials who crossed the line and harassed people during the Jagan regime are paying the penalty now. We are going strictly according to the law," Anitha told reporters in Vijayawada.
