Exciting bumper summer of events

Here is a taster of just some of the events happening in May and June. With a lot of attention devoted to the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Europe Day on May 8 - which is covered extensively on Page 3 of this newspaper - other events may have gone somewhat unnoticed.

BRIXHAM PIRATE FESTIVAL

Taking place over the early May bank holiday weekend from May 3-5, the port will be transformed into a haven for pirates, smugglers and other assorted scoundrels.

Its all good family fun though with a pirate parade on Saturday and Sunday and events throughout each day including singing and dancing - and drinking - all around the harbour.

Expect sea shanty singers, children's activities and new this year is a town centre events stage to complement one in the harbour.

There will be pirate skirmishes in the harbour between militia and pirates and firing displays from the Golden Hind.

The events will be clustered around the harbour and in the area between Fore and Middle streets.
