Walker calls for views on closure of branch
Hamilton Advertiser
|June 18, 2026
Larkhall residents affected by the closure of the town’s branch of Bank of Scotland are being asked to continue giving their views on its impact, to contribute to a newly-announced Westminster review.
Imogen Walker, the Hamilton & Clyde Valley MP, has welcomed the UK government's launch of an independent study of access to banking, which will report in October with recommendations on “the impact of branch closures and whether further action is needed to protect communities losing local provision”.
She has highlighted the constituency closure to Treasury ministers, and says contributing to the new review “is about making sure that local voices are heard”.
The Larkhall branch of Bank of Scotland, located on Union Street, closed its doors in January despite local opposition including a 2,000-signature petition and numerous appeals from customers and politicians of all parties.
