S.Korea’s acting president seeks US talks over tariffs

SEOUL: South Korea’s acting President Han Duck-soo said on Tuesday he would “clearly like to negotiate” with the United States over reducing tariffs imposed on his country by the Trump administration.

Speaking in an interview with CNN, Han also said South Korea would not band together with China, Japan or other countries to push back against the new tariffs, which have roiled global markets and stoked international fears of a recession.

US President Donald Trump said he discussed tariffs with Seoul, adding potentially deals in “a great contact” with South Korea’s acting president Han Duck-soo on Tuesday, a day before a 85% tariff on the Asian ally is scheduled to kick in.
