DPR approves survey for seven high-speed rail routes in Kerala
Gulf Today
|February 15, 2026
Kerala's longstanding push for faster and more efficient rail connectivity received a significant procedural boost on Friday, with the Union Ministry of Railways clearing Detailed Project Report (DPR) surveys for seven rail corridor upgrades capable of supporting speeds of up to 160 kmph.
The announcement, made in the Rajya Sabha by Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, signals renewed movement in the state's high-speed rail ambitions even as Kerala continues to await inclusion in the Union government's formally sanctioned high-speed rail project list. The sanctioned DPR surveys cover a wide geographical sweep across Kerala's rail backbone and adioining interstate links.
