Dhs170b projects to ease traffic congestion in the UAE

The UAE Government Annual Meetings 2025 revealed plans to alleviate traffic congestion, in line with directives from the wise leadership emphasising the importance of developing smart, flexible and sustainable infrastructure to facilitate smoother traffic flow, support comprehensive development and enhance quality of life.

Work is underway to expand the three main axes connecting the emirates and establish a new federal axis to link them all.

Suhail Al Mazrouei, the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, announced a package of national transportation and road projects worth Dhs170 billion by 2030. The aim is to alleviate traffic congestion and improve movement between the emirates.

These projects form part of a comprehensive strategy to develop transport infrastructure, including:

• Expanding the three main transport routes connecting the emirates

• A new federal axis to link all the emirates

• Expanding federal roads

• Enhancing public transport

• Implementing high-speed and light rail projects

• The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure is working to increase the efficiency of federal roads by 73% over the next five years
