Court refuses to suspend L2 Empuraan screening

TRIVANDRUM: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharata Janata Party (BJP) has suspended a local leader after he approached the Kerala High Court seeking a ban on L2 Empuraan.
-
The High court seeking a record collection of Rs 2 billion in four days created a movie controversy as it depicts the 8002 communal riots in Gujarat in which over 1,000 people, mostly Muslims, were killed.
The petitioner, VV Vijesh, a member of the Thrissur district committee, objected to the film’s depiction of the riots, asserting that it risks inciting communal violence.
Justice CS Dias refused to stay the screening and doubted the BJP leader’s bona fides, calling it a ‘publicity interest litigation’.
‘Was it not certified by the Censor Board? Before the movie’s release, the statute contemplates it has to be certified,’ he remarked, posting the case for hearing later.
