A man identified as SM did not realise that his recurring cough would bring him the worst news of his life. He sat in the small hospital room, awaiting the doctor's words that fell upon him like a thunderbolt: “You have advanced pharyngeal cancer.”
For a moment, he felt the ground shake beneath his feet and all the dreams he had built for his family were crumbling one by one. He faced many questions: How would he confront this disease? How would he protect his wife and children from the harshness of need after the costs of treatment had weighed heavily on him and robbed his small home of its laughter and peace?
Throughout his life, he was a struggling father, working as a modestly paid employee in a private sector establishment. He did not have much, but he had a big heart and a dream to provide a decent life and a secure future for his wife and two children. He would return home every evening, physically exhausted but filled with contentment as the smiles of his two sons lighting up the place were enough for him to forget all his worries.
