Arms smuggling attempt foiled at Torkham border

Pakistani authorities have intercepted a large cache of ammunition and magazines being smuggled from Afghanistan, officials at the Torkham border said.

They said the weapons were seized from a truck, and both the vehicle and its driver have been taken into custody for further investigation.

The operation was carried out by the Pakistan Customs House at Torkham, under the supervision of Customs Collector Appraisement and Additional Collector Amir Hamza Cheema, acting on a tip-off.

Officials said the interception not only prevented a major arm smuggling attempt, but also foiled a potential large-scale terrorist operation within Pakistan.
